Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Albert Einstein, (attributed)

After going through the month of October and into November without any sightings of a shooter buck from the tree I began to like most hunters become frustrated. “Where are the shooters that I had/have trail camera pictures of?” After hunting a large funnel between a food source and a bedding area were does frequent for many evenings with no success and knowing of two mature bucks in this particular area, I had to change my strategy and hopefully my luck. During a mid-day, mid-season scouting trip I investigated the property a little harder and even after many years of hunting the same property I had noticed an area that I had never noticed before. I found a tight funnel that lead into a bedding area that was full of rubs and scrapes. I immediately hung a stand and because of its relation to the bedding area I planed on hunting a morning instead of hunting the evening which I had traditionally hunted that area.

On the morning of November 4, 2011, with a favorable wind I was heading into the stand that I had hung four days earlier. A cool crisp morning with light winds I was set up early and had deer already all around me in the dark, “please don’t be the big one”, I said to myself as deer strolled through in the darkness. The movement slowed as the sun came up and I was just enjoying the morning. A doe and two fawns circled around my locations down wind and crossed my track where I had walked in with no detection. The doe froze and glared down the trail that I had walked in on. My view was obstructed and I couldn’t see what she was looking at. She took off like a bullet and the fawns followed. As the shooter buck which I recognized from trail camera pictures walking up the trail completely the opposite direction that I had anticipated basically downwind of my position, in my mind I thanked the Ozonics crew for the great product, I’m convinced and I’m a scent control nut. The buck continued up the trail past the location where the doe and fawns had entered the thick brush and b-lined to my only shooting lane 25 yds away where I had placed a doe in estrus Real Scent wick. I swung around in my Ambush Tree Saddle, drew, settled in and the rest is history.
